Laura Nyro! I was introduced to her in a Survey of Rock class in college, but I've never seen/heard her perform live before.

I'm always surprised at how little-known she is to modern fans given how clearly she fits into the through line of female songstresses from classic to present-day (esp. Tori Amos / PJ Harvey).

Oh, I never meant for this to be an exhaustive list--if I did it would certainly include Anita, and Barbra and Beverly, Joni, Ella, Doris, Dinah, Joan, LIza, Olivia, Rosemary, Betty, Dolly, Stevie, Bessie, Edith and so on and so on...

: )
